In Iraq, people with disabilities bear the brunt of a collapsing infrastructure. Despite that, they excel and persevere. Some of them become world champion athletes.

The athletes interviewed in this film are world class athletes. Wildan, Jarrah and Kovan are all champions and will be contenders for medals at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. But this video is about something more than sports. It’s a small, but important look, at the way people with disabilities struggle against ableism and a lack of accessible spaces and services in Iraq and beyond. We hope that it will be used to start important conversations about the perceptions of disability and the importance of creating accessible spaces, program and content in Iraq and elsewhere.
